What is “Live Edge” Wood?

Live Edgewood is using the natural tree with a bark on it to create custom-made products, such as bar, tops and tables, coffee tables, clocks, and shelves. After the tree is cut in processed, it is cut into slab typically 2 to 3 inches thick. This wood must be kiln dried for 2+ years in order for it to be used properly without issue. The process has multiple stages- starting with planing the raw wood into manageable slabs. Then, sanding the planed slab 4+ times. Each time making it smoother, until it is ready for the next step. Finishing. I use two coats of polyurethane, then, two coats of lacquer. Of course, sanding between each coat to ensure the highest quality finish. As you can guess, this process is time-consuming and must be done properly to ensure a high-quality finish.
